5 Ways to Use Herbs From Your Tracy Hills Garden

Whether you have a few pots around your Tracy Hills home overflowing with fragrant, flowering, edible herbs or you have a plot at our community garden, our climate means you can easily grow herbs.

So now that you’ve babysat your herbs, conquered the slugs and grown an abundance of herbs, whether that’s basil, oregano or thyme, now what? Here are five ways to use your herbs.

Cook with them. Let’s start with the obvious. Fresh herbs can’t be beat. Of course, dried spices are convenient, but fresh herbs bring so much more flavor and can be used to add complexity and aroma to a variety of dishes. For example, basil is great in Italian dishes like pasta sauces and pesto. Rosemary is a great addition to roasted meats and potatoes. Thyme can be used in soups, stews and sauces. Parsley is a great addition to salads and dressings, while sage is perfect for adding flavor to stuffing and poultry dishes. Hungry yet?

Make delicious tea. Herbs like mint, chamomile and lemon balm are great for making tea, and it’s easy to do. Simply steep your dried herbs in hot water for a few minutes and enjoy your delicious, refreshing beverage. You can also add a bit of honey or lemon for a hint of sweetness or tang.

Relax with aromatherapy. Herbs like lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus can be used for aromatherapy. Simply place your fresh herbs in a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam. This can help to reduce stress by promoting relaxation. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to the water for added fragrance.

Decorate your home. Fresh herbs can be used as decorations around the home. You can use them to make a beautiful centerpiece for your dining table or place them in vases around the house to add a fresh scent (think mint and rosemary) and natural beauty. You can also dry the herbs and place them in wreaths and other decorative crafts.

Let them grow. If none of the above ideas appeals to you, simply let your herbs be. Many herbs have wonderful scents that you can enjoy just by simply stepping out your front or back door. And as your herbs flower, they will attract important pollinators like bees or beautiful butterflies.

It’s never too late to start growing herbs. If you’re interested in a garden plot at the Tracy Hills community garden, email [email protected]. Be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram to stay in the loop with the latest happenings at Tracy Hills.

Get Inspired With Next Gen® Spaces at Tracy Hills

Lennar’s innovative Next Gen® designs at Sunhaven, Greenwood, Pearl and Topaz at Tracy Hills offer you a space that can satisfy your imagination.

Here are some ideas for turning your Next Gen® suite at Tracy Hills into your own private oasis.

Sing, strum, drum in a music room. Whether you play guitar, bass or drums, a music room is just your style—it provides storage for large instruments and their accessories like music stands and sound equipment. Invite family members to join in, whether that’s for a jam session or sing-along for some fun family bonding time.

Work from home in comfort. Do you have a home business that needs its own space? Looking for some privacy while working from home? Having a home office is crucial to making it all…well, work. Add a desk, comfortable chair, storage solutions and lighting (good, natural light is key here) to make it complete. At the end of that day, close your laptop, shut off the lights and go enjoy the rest of your Tracy Hills home.

Stay in shape with a home gym. If you want to stay healthy, daily fitness is key. Your Next Gen® suite is the perfect space for a workout room. Make your fitness space functional just like a pro gym by adding equipment and accessories like a yoga mat, weights and/or resistance bands. Finally, you can work out in peace and get (or stay) in shape!

Find your inner artist. If you enjoy creating art, whether that’s scrapbooking or painting on canvas, your Next Gen® space gives you the room to dream and create, store your supplies and peacefully work on projects. Add storage solutions like shelves and drawers, a large worktable and good lighting to make your art room truly functional.

Catch all the action with a home theater. Grab your popcorn and TV remote, then relax with the latest Hollywood blockbuster in your home theater. Even better, add a comfortable couch or your favorite chair, a big-screen HDTV and some good speakers to create the whole home theater experience.

Design a comfy guest room. Let’s end with a popular idea: the tried-and-true guest room. If you have friends and family who visit (like grandparents who want to see their grandkids!), your Next Gen® space is perfect. Just add a comfortable bed, fresh linens and some basic amenities like a bedside table and lamp, and your space is ready to go.

With some creativity, planning and your own ideas, you’ll be turning your Next Gen® suite into one that you can enjoy every day.

Family- and Kid-Friendly Options for Tracy Hills Residents

We’ve curated a variety of fun and exciting activities that are perfect for families with children of all ages. From outdoor adventures to educational experiences, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy! Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures, sports, cultural experiences or just a fun day out with the kids, here are five options to explore.

Tracy Sports Complex

Ready to play ball? At the Tracy Sports Complex, come join a team or watch local teams play (both local and regional sports leagues) baseball in one of the many sports fields in the complex. The complex has baseball diamonds enclosed by high fences as well as several multipurpose fields.

West Valley Bowl

Who doesn’t love a good game of bowling with some friendly competition among friends and family? West Valley Bowl features a whopping 32 lanes as well as open and league bowling. Want a bigger gathering, say, for a kid’s birthday party? They also offer party hosting options. For the little ones, there are optional bumpers—and for those who just don’t like to bowl, they can enjoy arcade games and a round of pool at the numerous pool tables.

Tilt Tracy

Video games are more popular than ever! Tilt features a variety of vintage (we’re looking at you, Pac-Man and Frogger) and more recent (and more realistic looking) video games. The facility also has redemption games (think old-school carnival games) with prizes, air hockey and water gun games. Whatever your game or skill, you’ll find it here!

Tracy Historical Museum

Tracy’s history follows much of California’s. First inhabited by the Indigenous Peoples of the San Joaquin Valley, Tracy was part of Spanish and Mexican haciendas in the early 1800s, then later in the century was used as a site for railroad land grants. Relive that history and visit Tracy Historical Museum. Experience some of the people, places and events that are part of our rich history and that of the northern San Joaquin Valley region of California.

Great Wolf Lodge

We don’t like to throw the word “epic” around, but we can all agree that the Great Wolf Lodge San Francisco/Manteca is pretty epic indeed. Come splash, swim and slide with the whole family, then dry off and head into the adventure park to delight in dry-land attractions, such as bowling, arcade games, mini golf and the immersive MagiQuest adventure game.

Tracy Hills is located near most of these family-friendly places. Go out and enjoy the day with the family, then come home and continue to explore and enjoy family time—from the Resident’s Club to the pool to the trails. Finish off your day relaxing in your home surrounded by all the amenities a Tracy Hills home offers!

Tracy Hills: a strong community leader

One of the many benefits of living at Tracy Hills is its proximity to thriving, bustling downtown Tracy, where residents can enjoy entertainment, shopping and dining.

Driving the revitalization of downtown Tracy is the Tracy City Center Association. Through partnerships, sponsorships and fun events, this organization boosts the economic well-being of the city’s residents, employees, businesses and property owners—and creates a buzz about all there is to do in downtown Tracy.

Storefront in downtown Tracy, CA

That’s why Tracy Hills is delighted to be the main sponsor of numerous fun events the organization produces throughout the year in downtown Tracy. In September, we sponsored the Wine Stroll, which was voted one of Tracy’s best events. Participants enjoyed the lively atmosphere of downtown Tracy as well as wine samples, food and great music, and were given free swag bags that we provided.

In celebration of Halloween, we sponsored the Candy Crawl, which brought over 4,500 community members to downtown Tracy—including 2,500 kids (in some amazing costumes!) that enjoyed free candy handed out by merchants.

Many of our residents have commented on how much fun they have when they visit downtown Tracy, and we couldn’t be happier to support Tracy City Center Association and its revitalization of downtown Tracy.
